In 2018, Samsung announced their commitment to environmental responsibility by pledging to go green. By 2020, they wanted to source enough renewable energy to power and operate all of their facilities across China, Europe, and the United States.

Samsung’s expansion to San Jose proved to be an ideal location for them to commence the deployment of their solar projects. They envisioned for their newly constructed eight-story parking garage to be covered with solar modules, and they desired a customized layout that would not only maximize PV output, but also look aesthetically appealing.

Working closely with the project developer, Terrasmart conceptualized a customized louvered canopy that would cover the top of the garage, providing ample shade for vehicles parked on the top floor of the building. The final design allowed for the installation of 1,018 solar modules.

The customized louvered garage structure was not only manufactured in-house by Terrasmart—thus reducing fabrication lead times—but also installed by one of our highly experienced crews.

To this very day, the solar canopy stands out as one of the primary focal points of the modern, cutting-edge San Jose campus.
