THE YORKTOWN PROJECTS
YORKTOWN, NY
5.42 MW | SURFACE LOT
A tech corporation in Yorktown, New York, recently sought approval to build a solar canopy over the large parking lot on their premises. Their goal was to eliminate 6.8 million pounds of carbon dioxide emissions annually.
A key challenge was the deployment of multiple parking projects at the same time, as the site owner wished to install a new parking lot and an underground water storm management system in addition to the solar canopies. To ensure the smooth coordination of site operations, our team helped to coordinate a construction and installation schedule to ensure that the multiple on-site vendors could work effectively, without incurring any project delays.
Our engineering team also accounted for numerous existing underground utilities by working with key stakeholders to ensure precise foundation placements via meticulous design engineering. As the site contained an active working facility, the Terrasmart crew coordinated installation in phases to ensure that the company’s employees could access the parking lot at all times.
From conceptualization to installation, our seasoned engineers ensured that all engineering designs and product fabrications adhered to the strict standards of excellence set by FM Global.
Upon completion, the solar arrays are expected to produce up to 6,363 MWh of power in their first year alone—which is equivalent to removing approximately 648 cars from local roads for the period of one year. In addition to providing renewable energy to the local community, the solar canopy will also help to bolster a nearby energy substation with capacity limitations.
